A Still Lake Beneath Glowing Hills reflects my ongoing exploration of mood, memory, and sensory atmosphere through abstract pastel. Created on sanded paper, the work is built with confident linear marks and minimal blending, allowing colour and structure to hold equal presence. Executed in a single, intuitive session, it holds a sense of immediacy and spontaneity. A quiet lake contrasts with glowing, sunset-lit hills—expressed through soft blues and pinks with touches of deep yellow. In my practice, I seek to evoke rather than describe, using pastel’s sensitivity and directness to translate fleeting emotional impressions into visual form. My work often leans into a synaesthetic quality, where colour, rhythm, and space blend to create contemplative, poetic imagery.

Creating an abstract landscape on paper is much like telling a story through steep cliffs and rushing water. The tale of majestic mountains and friendly slopes are told by dry pigments rubbed into cotton paper until the whole surface is filled with colourful pigments that‘s creating images of recognisable shapes and places remembered. But its more than that, its a tale of life itself; a soulscape, a refelction on human emotions.

I like to reimagine a specific place or a recogniseable landscape and to translate it into a lyrical landscape. Abastraction allows me to incorporate the whole experience from the emotions brought about by the scent of wam earth at sunlit hills to the sounds of running water and the whispers of the wind. The landscape is dissolved and translated it into a colour mood.

This artwork is made with soft pastels and has a fine layer of fixative as finishing coat. It has a delicate surface and needs the protection of glass. It ships flat in a box.
